Our housekeeping team plays a central role in keeping the wheels turning here at the Inn, and one of the warm and smiling leaders on this team is Gefford, our Housekeeping Assistant Manager.

Hailing from Mindanao, a town in the southern part of the Philippines two hours from Manila, Gefford grew up in a landscape a fair amount more tropical than his current home. Despite the drastic difference in climate, he finds that his remote hometown draws certain comforting similarities with Tofino through its abundant trees, beaches, and natural environments. Gefford finds calmness and beauty hiking in the Tonquin and West Coast trails, where he enjoys spending his time soaking up the greenery and forests that first drew him to Tofino. Beyond his time spent in nature, he is also taking an interior design course, where he loves studying and designing kitchens in particular.

We are honoured to have Gefford on our team for nine years now. Having started as a Room Attendant, his impeccable work ethic and commitment to development saw him move into a team leader position after nine months. From there, he was promoted to Housekeeping Supervisor, and finally to his current role of three years as Housekeeping Assistant Manager. When asked what he loves most about working here, he shared that he feels very aligned with our dedication to supporting growth within the Wick family and our joint commitment to providing an incredible guest experience.

As of last year, Gefford is officially a Canadian citizen. While most of his family is still in the Phillippines, his sister Joanna now lives in Tofino and is another one of our wonderful housekeeping team members! Throughout his journey to build a life in Canada and attain his citizenship, he has supported others in doing the same and continues to be a friendly guide and resource to his peers who are on a similar path.
