Ballyfin Demesne is lauded as Ireland’s most exquisite Regency mansion, having reopened in May 2011 after a comprehensive nine-year restoration. This grand estate marries historical elegance with contemporary luxury, ensuring an unparalleled Irish hospitality experience. The property features 20 meticulously designed rooms and suites, plus the secluded Gardener’s Cottage, providing a bespoke and intimate stay for each guest. The estate's rich history is woven into every corner of its grounds and felt in the ancient woodlands, ornamental lake, and various ornamental buildings and follies, all of which are inspired by the philosophy of renowned English gardener and landscape architect, Capability Brown. Highlights such as the medieval-style tower and the walled Edwardian rock garden offer guests enchanting explorations amidst the backdrop of Ballyfin’s storied past. Each element of the estate intertwines elegantly, from the meticulously restored follies, to the peaceful woodlands, to the exquisite guest service, and welcomes guests into a uniquely splendid experience.

As springtime unfolds on our coastline, we here at the Wickaninnish Inn are ever-inspired by the unique ways luxury and environmental stewardship can harmoniously coexist throughout Relais & Châtueax’s unique properties worldwide. We admire the way Ballyfin Demesne has woven its commitment to ecological stewardship into all it does, highlighted through its extensive rewilding efforts, native woodland planting, and initiatives aimed at carbon sequestration. A special mention must be made in celebration of World Bee Day this past May 20th as there are few more important drivers of sustainability than our bees and pollinators, and all of Ballyfin’s sustainability initiatives are complemented by its thriving beekeeping program.

Tended by dedicated beekeeper Bernd Schuch, these bees produce honey, honeycomb, and wax from spring until autumn, ensuring a local and sustainable source of honey for the estate. The hives, carefully monitored and managed, are a testament to Ballyfin’s dedication to preserving and promoting ecological health. By supporting pollination, these bees play a crucial role in the estate’s ecosystem, enhancing the natural beauty of the gardens and contributing to the rich, seasonal flavors that define Ballyfin’s culinary offerings. As we all take a deep breath and feel this spring becoming more vibrant, we are inspired by the ways in which properties like Ballyfin are elevating the experience of guests by delighting their senses, and cross-pollinating their innovative sustainability ethos into each of those experiences.
