It’s hard to believe Langdon Hall was simply one of a few summer homes for a family (mind you, more than a hundred years ago). This stately building, designed in the Federal Revival Style, housed 32 rooms by the time it was finished in 1902!

A grand estate on 30 acres in Cambridge, Ontario, Langdon Hall was bought, renovated and expanded to open as a unique country house hotel for visitors in 1989. The transformation of a personal home into the Langdon Country House Hotel & Spa was carefully curated by its owners, William Bennett and Mary Beaton, who have taken such care in maintaining an homage to the building’s heritage while continuing to create exceptional modern comforts.

With feather beds, down duvets and wood-burning fires in many of the rooms, you’ll surely feel cozy here at Langdon Hall. But let’s start at the beginning of your day here:

Wake up and wander through the gardens! With 12 kilometres of trails, a walk in the woods is a must here, but maybe you’ll want to stay closer to the residence and wonder at the gardens which are meticulously cared for. The Victorian era is alive at Langdon Hall, as is the delightful aroma of flowers in bloom! (And, yes, they do weddings!)

If you’re a tennis player, perhaps you’ll spend some time on the court before taking lunch by the pool. Yes, the poolside menu is available from noon until 4PM, giving you just enough time to enjoy both a decadent meal and a swim, or perhaps you’re more likely to attend an Afternoon Tea and devour a book in the country air. This is what it feels like to wind down, your way.

And if that’s not enough—or even if it is—be sure to book yourself in for a spa treatment. Manicures, facials, Swedish massage and reiki are just some of the offerings on the menu.

If you’ve relaxed properly, that would be plenty of activities to get you to dinnertime, and we would recommend the tasting menu at Langdon Hall’s dining room, of course. You can expect something phenomenal from Executive Chef Jason Bangerter and his team, and The Wine Cellar—as anyone who has visited our own at the Wickaninnish Inn can appreciate—is something we know wine lovers will adore! With over 1400 bottles, trust the sommeliers at Langdon Hall to find the best for your palette.

It’s not only travel restrictions that take Canadian Relais & Chateaux properties to the top of our list this year; there are incredible gems here waiting for you to experience them!
