If there is one constant that has always defined life on the coast, it is the ocean. The Pacific is not only our backdrop but the heartbeat of Tofino, the soul of our community, and the enduring presence that connects us all. While the world celebrates World Oceans Day on June 8, here on nature’s edge, we do our best to pay tribute to the ocean daily through how we live, explore, and come together.

For those of us lucky enough to grow up in Tofino, the ocean was both our playground and our teacher. Some of my fondest memories from childhood were aboard a 12-foot aluminum boat with a well-worn 9.5 Johnson motor, navigating Clayoquot Sound with my best friend Dana. We knew every nook, inlet, and every stretch of shoreline only accessible by water. A visit to Whitey Bernard’s was always on the agenda – somehow, we always managed to scrape together a few dollars for fuel, with just enough left over for a well-earned fudgesicle from the freezer.

Today, the ocean continues to be an open invitation for wonder, discovery, and quiet connection. Whether you're strolling the shorelines or catching your first wave with a surf lesson, there are countless ways to experience the breadth and beauty of these waters. It’s not all pounding surf either – there’s a quiet grace to the intertidal zones, the gentle laps of an early morning kayak outing, and the stillness of a fog-covered inlet. Each moment near the sea offers a new rhythm to be discovered.

At The Pointe Restaurant, the ocean offers our culinary team endless inspiration as they create dishes that reflect the bounty of our local waters and follow the ebb and flow of the seasons. Highlighting the beginning of spring, local lingcod is poached and glazed with dill and spinach, paired with seasonal accompaniments like fiddleheads and asparagus. Also featured is a halibut brandade, complemented by a ginger and hibiscus-infused broth – all best savoured with a sweeping 240-degree view of the lively sea below.

Recently, Tofino was named one of the top 10 destinations in Canada by CBC’s The Current, echoing what we've always known: this is a special place, shaped by the land, the sea, and the people who feel its pull.

Whether you're here for a few days or an extended stay, the ocean has a way of setting the pace, inviting a deeper connection to nature. However you choose to experience the great Pacific Ocean, we look forward to welcoming you to the Inn to discover it for yourself.

Warm regards from where the land meets the sea,

Charles
