Inn & Around the Wick February 2014
Light, bright: While the Inn was closed this January, maintenance staff were kept busy cleaning, fixing and updating the property, doing everything from cleaning up the occasional scuff mark to replacing carpeting in The Pointe Restaurant. Guests in the Beach Building especially will discover a number of subtle but significant improvements, including new automatic blinds in the guestrooms, more flattering lighting in the bathrooms and the finishing touch of hand-crafted Douglas Fir wall paneling from recycled old growth timber.
Swell sounds: Guests who enjoy the relaxing environment of the Ancient Cedars Spa have even more reason to say “ahhhhhhh.” The Inn has just installed a new, state-of-the-art sound system that will let each treatment space create a unique ambience by setting its own music and volume.
A whale of a festival: It is, quite literally, one of the biggest events on the West Coast. March 15 to 23 marks the 27th annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival, when some 20,000 Grey whales swing past Vancouver Island on their 13,000-kilometre journey from Mexico’s Baja Peninsula to the Bering Sea. The festival features speakers, presentations, documentaries, art shows, photo exhibits, interpretive walks and, of course, whale watching. The highlight is the Wickaninnish Gala and Silent Auction on Tuesday, March 11, when the Inn’s Chef Warren Barr and his team will create culinary magic paired with exceptional wines. Tickets for the gala are $110 per person, including taxes and service, and all proceeds go to support the festival. For more info, visit www.pacificrimwhalefestival.com.
