Food Day Canada: The Inn’s Executive Chef Warren Barr has won the first-ever “Continuous Culinary Excellence” award from Food Day Canada. Event founder Anita Stewart was on hand to present Chef Barr with the award in person; the two have known each other since he was chef at the Inn at Bay Fortune in Prince Edward Island and participated in his first Food Day Canada event. This year, Chef Barr celebrated with a special menu at The Pointe Restaurant, as well as a collaborative Chesterman Beach Cookout with Chef Brad Holmes of OLO Restaurant in Victoria.

Best in the West: Not only has Tofino been named 2016’s “Best Beach Town in the West” by Sunset magazine, the Wickaninnish Inn has taken the title of top resort hotel in Western Canada in the 2016 Travel + Leisure Awards. The magazine wrote: “The Wick, as fans refer to it affectionately, looks as though it’s positioned at the edge of the earth, with perfectly clear nights for stargazing and a roaring en-suite gas fireplace to keep things extra cozy on stormy nights.”

Fighting fit: The Inn’s fitness centre has been updated with new TRUE Fitness PS100 treadmills and a TRUE Fitness CS400 recumbent bike. Now there’s no excuse not to work out even when it’s raining.

Museum opening: The long-awaited Tofino Clayoquot Heritage Museum’s grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday, August 17. The museum explores the region’s rich and diverse natural and cultural history, from the retreat of the last glaciers some 20,000 years ago to the historic events of the late 20th century.
