With Pacific Yellowfin Charters, a yacht sanctuary can be your “personal floating wilderness resort” for a week. Take a journey into Desolation Sound and the Great Bear Rainforest, two of British Columbia’s incredible coastal gems best experienced (and for many spots in them only experienced) by watercraft.

And what a craft to journey on! The Pacific Yellowfin was built in 1943 as a U.S. military vessel, and she has quite the history. Once decommissioned, “she went on to play a part in many government research voyages, where she was lightheartedly re-named the Yellowfin. A near-miss involving sticks of dynamite, placed her back at auction, where in 1957 she was refitted as a family excursion vessel for nearly twenty years.”

Captain Colin bought the Yellowfin in 2000 and outfitted the vessel for comfort and leisure, adapting the yacht to become a mobile lodge for those seeking an ocean “safari” as the world had never seen.

With the small crew and accommodating 8-12 guests in four cozy cabins, a cruise on the Yellowfin is an intimate experience. You’ll get to know your other “neighbours”—the wildlife—quite well, too, as every day you’ll wake up in the middle of a swath of land and sea unmarred by modern development. People have lived here for thousands of years, of course, and their rich story is part of what makes this region resonate with such potential. A way to interact with this world, one that leaves no harm, is right before you here.

So, get amongst it! There are plenty of opportunities to get off the ship for daily adventures, if that’s what you seek. Take your pick of kayaks, paddle boards, wakeboards, water skis, snorkels, inflatable tubes and more to get out for a paddle or swim. Or you can simply relax with a glass of something delicious.

The bounty of the land is what will make up your meals onboard. Chef Ben uses “hyper-local ingredients to create impressive foodie fusions,” and his sommelier training means you’ll be hydrated with the perfect drink pairing, too. Have a toast next to the humpbacks!

To note: Pacific Yellowfin Charters will not be open for the 2020 season, but that makes their excursions for 2021 even more exciting! Book for next year and take advantage of the time they’ll spend this summer exploring even more incredible places to bring you to.
