As we plan for a return to travel, we thought it would be a great time to focus on some properties close to home that make a great addition to any British Columbia or Vancouver Island itinerary.

Nestled in a remote inlet north east of us on the coast of British Columbia’s mainland, Nimmo Bay Resort should be on every traveler’s bucket list of wild destinations—no matter if you call the west coast home or not! With no roads leading to it (fly or boat-in access only!), Nimmo Bay Resort has an unimaginable location in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest and is constantly redefining what elegant and remote wilderness experiences can be.

Wake up on the water’s edge, or surrounded by ancient trees, either way you’ll be taking deep breaths of the freshest fresh air. Nine perfectly “spacious-yet-cozy” cabins make up the private accommodations at Nimmo Bay Resort, each thoughtfully designed to ensure the natural beauty of the outdoors is brought in. Even so, there’s no way you’ll be able to spend all day inside when you’re here—there’s simply too much to do and explore!

The team at Nimmo offers incredible and immersive excursions by sea or air. Get on board a full-day “Coastal Safari” and seek out where the bears and whales call home. The knowledgeable guides will tour you through beautiful local sites and outlying research stations before finding a secluded beach for your picnic lunch. The next day you can get sky-high in a helicopter above the pristine landscape. Admire the soaring mountain peaks carpeted with lush, old-growth trees and plunging valleys with waterfalls cascading down. When you’re ready for a break, admire the view atop a 10,000-year-old glacier. Alternatively, you can launch a pair of kayaks or SUP boards right from your doorstep and take an afternoon to get up close and personal with coastal flora and fauna.

When it comes to cuisine, the resort’s culinary offerings are an essential component of their guests’ experiences, as well as their desire to operate as sustainably as possible. The Great Bear Rainforest—an intact swath of wilderness—is an ecologically-significant environment and Nimmo Bay Resort’s menus are always grounded in seasonal offerings and local ingredients to reflect their environmentally-conscious philosophies. Acting on these principles is not only better for the environment, it provides a unique and decadent culinary experience for guests. Now take that intimate dinner to a mountaintop (for real!) and you’ll get what we mean by “You have to go here!” Think we’re dreaming it up? Nope! You’ll be reliving these moments for the rest of your life.

Nimmo Bay Resort Owners
Fraser and Becky Murray

We are proud to call Nimmo Bay Resort a partner in the industry and our friends! The resort is privately owned by the pioneering Murray family who have passed it down to a second generation. Now the founders’ son, Fraser, and his wife Becky run the business and, as hosts and our friends, we have seen firsthand how they continuously exude an authentic welcome through their hospitality. We are so pleased to highlight a visit to this destination and can’t wait to hear about the memories you create there!
