In like a lion, out like a lamb, a saying that certainly rings true here as March is known to bring about at least one last blustery storm before it softens into spring.

Wicky and Windy, our chattering bald eagles, have made their way back, as is their tradition every spring, along with our traditional family of ravens that arrive in March. Known as the tricksters and mischief-makers in First Nations culture, these beautiful, intelligent birds return to the Inn's grounds every year to raise their young, and while their nest remains well-hidden, one can often hear them squawking away around the property. Look to the waters, and you may catch a glimpse of the wondrous Grey Whale migration as they travel 10,000-12,000 miles between the balmy waters of Mexico and their summer feeding grounds in the Bering Sea. Naturally, a few of the brighter members of the Grey Whale family forego this extra leg of the journey and make Clayoquot Sound their home for the summer and well into the late Fall.

In this day and age of constant digital connection, the bustling energy of spring can serve as a reminder to slow down, embrace the present and look up from our screens. You never know what surprise mother nature may have in store when you gaze out our windows here at the Inn, but if you remain observant, you are always sure to be rewarded with something interesting.

One of my personal goals from my early days in the hospitality industry working for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts was to one day build an Inn that would be welcomed into the prestigious family of Relais & Châteaux, a goal we were very fortunate to achieve when we were welcomed into the fold in 1997. There have been many wonderful Relais & Châteaux moments over the years since, but through it all has been the amazing tenure of one Brenda Homick, who has been there behind the scenes representing and supporting all of her members in North America from her perch in New York City. Brenda has grown and developed, supported all of us over the years, and I encourage you to read a little bit more about this amazing woman who has been and continues to be much admired and true tour de force.

With an energized start to spring, I am delighted to introduce you to our Sustainability Committee and announce the formation of our new Directors group, which will focus on strategic and long-term decisions for the Inn. With our ongoing commitment to promotion from within and in tandem with the above creation of the Directors group, I am pleased to say we have also promoted several members of our team into new management roles. We continue to celebrate the talent, tenure, and ongoing commitment to world-class guest experiences that our team embraces every day and recognize those who have taken on new challenges within our leadership team.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Inn and everything Tofino has to offer this season,

Charles
