The Pacific Ocean is one of the great forces that sets the rhythm here. Tofino sits within Clayoquot Sound's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, known for its incredible diversity of wildlife both on land and at sea. Grey whales, humpbacks, and orcas pass offshore on their seasonal migrations, sea lions rest along the rocky points, and black bears can be spotted along the shoreline at low tide, flipping rocks in search of crabs.
Summer is a wonderful time to experience life on the water firsthand. Surfers are drawn to the swells along Chesterman and Cox Bay, while others discover a slower pace and different perspective paddling along the coast. Gliding past rocky shorelines, you'll likely spot sea stars clinging beneath the surface or harbour seals popping up to take a look around.

Back on shore, a meander along the beach reveals its own treasures. At low tide, the tidepools become a world of their own, with anemones and small crabs tucked among the rocks. For those seeking to venture further, Nomad Adventure Guides runs a full-day boat journey through Clayoquot Sound, pairing wildlife watching and a rainforest walk with a soak in the natural hot springs at Hot Springs Cove. However one chooses to explore on a summer day, there is much to be discovered by the ocean.
Wedding season is also in full swing at the Inn, welcoming couples for a true West Coast celebration by the sea.
Several spaces are available across the property, each lending its own character to the occasion. The Salal Room hosts rehearsal dinners and full receptions alike, a versatile space that can be reserved on its own or expanded into the adjoining Shoreline Terrace for larger groups. The Terrace can also be booked separately, perched above Chesterman Beach with skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the room with natural light, and balcony access lets guests step outside to take in the salty breeze.
Hemlock Hideaway offers a secluded space deep in the ancient forest, with cozy loungers and glowing fire tables set for toasts and dancing beneath the trees. Below the Inn, tucked into the bedrock itself, Howard's Wine Cellar surrounds guests with a curated collection of wine and a handcrafted curved cedar table built for intimate, story-filled evenings with up to 20 guests. From the earliest spark of inspiration to the final touches, our Special Events Team will custom-design a day entirely your own.
Whether your time here is spent in peaceful mornings on the water or late evenings of celebration, we very much look forward to welcoming you to the Inn this summer.
Warmly,
Charles
