Winter solstice invites a season of stillness, introspection, and rest. The darkest day of the year is now behind us, and as the light triumphs once again during the sun’s latest pivot, we begin our return to longer days ahead.

In the spirit of the holidays, the grounds have been lovingly decorated with lights and ornaments. Our recent Holiday Light Tour saw many locals and guests joining in for our annual fundraising tradition in support of our local food banks, a celebration of light amidst the wintry December days. A most sincere thank you to everyone who bundled up and came to visit Santa and his elves to enjoy a hot chocolate, our Tofino-Ucluelet choir and a walk around the grounds. Together, we raised over $2500 and received a significant amount of food donations thanks to the generosity of everyone’s support, and the Wickaninnish Inn matching all funds received.

Behind the On The Rocks Bar, exquisite seasonal cocktails have been carefully crafted by our bartender Tyler. Should you find yourself cozied up at The Pointe Restaurant on a chilly evening this month, the ‘Storm Season’ is my choice beverage to warm you up from the inside out. Storm Season is a spirit-driven cocktail that blends elements of apple, maple and bitter black licorice. At its core is Merridale Cider Brandy, a Vancouver Island distilled apple brandy, complimented and balanced by Sortilege, Fernet Branca, and cedar aromatics.

For those wishing to join us for New Year’s festivities, New Year’s Eve at The Pointe Restaurant will feature a seasonal multi-course tasting menu, with wine pairings meticulously selected by our in-house sommelier. On the tasting menu is a Dungeness crab salad, confit salmon, Canadian wagyu ribeye, and a delectable chocolate treat to cap it off. We hope to see you!

This year marked the first in three since the start of the pandemic that we have been able to stay open consistently and invite guests from outside the province to experience Tofino and the Inn. It was an absolute honour and pleasure to welcome back our friends from south of the border and abroad to share in our fresh ocean air and lush rainforest trails.

On Monday, January 2nd, we close our doors for our annual refresh of the Inn, tackling an extensive array of projects in both the front and in the heart of the house. It is a time of renewal, dedicated to polishing and upholding the calibre of the exceptional quality and service we are proud to share with our guests. Upon our reopening on Friday, February 10th, we look forward to another invigorating year as we welcome guests to our beautiful corner of the Island.

The Wickaninnish Inn family and I wish you a joyous holiday season full of warmth.

All the best in everything this new year holds ahead,

Charles
