With its long stretches of daylight and vibrant energy in the air, summer in Tofino presents limitless opportunities to immerse ourselves in our West Vancouver Island beauty. Venture through the awe-inspiring old-growth trees in Pacific Rim National Park, or take to the calmer summer waters of the open ocean or miles of inlet waterways by standup paddleboard or kayak.

An excellent time of year to cast a line, the coho salmon and albacore tuna make an appearance in full force at the tail end of summer and into the early fall. For those who prefer a guided adventure, Long Beach Nature Tours offers a vast array of experiences, from bear-watching to local walks and even multi-day overnight hiking trips.

Cocktail aficionados will enjoy the fresh seasonal spotlights at the On the Rocks bar, one in particular, which I believe is sure to delight the sour lovers at heart. Native to the Pacific Northwest, salal berries can be described as an earthy cross between a blueberry and blackcurrant, coming into full bloom in August. The Salal sour combines both Odd Society Spirits' Wallflower gin and Salal gin, housemade blood orange syrup, a touch of Amaro Montenegro, fresh lemon juice and egg whites to create a smooth and fluffy purple cocktail that celebrates the flavours of the salal berry. A special refreshment to relish after a day of exploring, relaxing, or an ideal mix of both.

I would be remiss not to also mention a divine dish Chef Clayton has crafted. Lobster Mushroom Gratin highlights this local 'mushroom' poached in olive oil and gently warmed in a brie cream. The dish also features an oil made from the crab roe of the Dungeness Crab we receive from our local supplier, Naas, as well as a dessert-style wine from Venturi-Schulze in Cobble Hill.

Beyond the fantastic fare, The Pointe Restaurant offers a dining experience that indulges all the senses in a unique location perched above a rocky outcrop overlooking the ocean. Whether you are staying with us as a guest at the Inn or stopping by to join us for a meal, our team looks forward to welcoming you.

Looking ahead, September brings with it a certain tranquillity. The warm sunny days continue with bright skies day and night while the upbeat summer energy coursing through Tofino gradually ebbs to a mellow level. It is typically a busy month here at the Inn, and now is the perfect time to consider your fall getaway and reserve your preferred room and view. Should a visit to our Ancient Cedars Spa or The Pointe Restaurant be on your radar during your time in Tofino, we highly encourage advance reservations to ensure availability.

Wishing you and your loved ones a fulfilling last few weeks of summer sunshine, and we hope to have you join us at the Wick soon.
