Spring has once again awakened the coastal wildlife, as the sleepy winter months are behind us and bear and whale watching is coming to life all around us. As I left the Inn recently, I caught sight of our resident ravens returning for the first time this year, a sure sign of the turning of the seasons.

As we come into the warmer months and begin to plan our Spring and Summer getaways and vacations, travel options to Tofino are expanding with daily service from Vancouver via Pacific Coastal Airlines and Harbour Air as well from both Vancouver Harbour and, new this year, also from their Richmond location. For those preferring the incredibly beautiful drive option, we are happy to report that the major construction project at Kennedy Lake has finally concluded. If you are travelling to the island via BC Ferries, it is also highly recommended to make your ferry reservations well in advance. We expect all routes to the island will be very popular this year, especially on holiday weekends. For a full overview of Tofino's travel options, click here to view our Getting Here page.

On your next stay, a stroll or hike is a perfect way to stretch your legs while experiencing the awe-inspiring beauty of Spring in the Pacific Northwest. One of the many unique wonders of Tofino is the incredibly lush rainforest on the edge of the ocean. Less than a kilometre from Tofino's centre is the Tonquin Trail, an ideal choice for a family-friendly walk along the coastline. Particularly suited for soaking up the sunset, this boardwalk trail includes exquisite panoramic views of Templar Channel and the wreck site of The Tonquin. I suggest leaving some extra time to hop down the stairs to visit the various beaches along the path, as you will surely discover some gems.

There has also been some exciting news brewing in our kitchen as of late. I'm incredibly pleased to congratulate and welcome back Chef Clayton Fontaine, who will be stepping into his new role as Executive Chef at The Pointe Restaurant on May 1. As our former Sous Chef, Chef Clayton has been a part of the Wick family since 2019, and we look forward to having his inspired approach guiding our kitchen brigade. We also thank Chef Carmen Ingham for all of his exemplary contributions to our culinary program and send our best wishes as he makes a move to Victoria to be closer to family.

With the arrival of Spring also comes a request for your feedback on the Condé Nast Readers' Choice Awards. This is your opportunity for guests to share their travel experiences and help recognize the best hotels and resorts in the world. If you have stayed with us in the past, our Wickaninnish Inn team would be truly honoured if you could take a moment to vote for us on this prestigious platform under the resorts category.

Should a Tofino beach retreat sound particularly delightful for a Mother's Day celebration, booking a retreat to the Wick next month is not too late. Join us for the entire weekend or for Mother's Day brunch at The Pointe Restaurant on May 14. Our kitchen crafts special features for this day, and we would be delighted to celebrate the incredible women in your life with you.

With brighter, more energized days upon us, I wish you and yours all the best.

Charles
