The Wickaninnish Inn sits on a rocky headland where Chesterman Beach meets the ancient rainforest of Tofino, British Columbia. What began as a family dream in the 1950s became reality in 1996, when Dr. Howard McDiarmid and his son Charles opened their vision of "rustic elegance on nature's edge," joining Relais & Châteaux just one year later. That vision continues today through Charles McDiarmid's stewardship as Maître de Maison.
Narratives of place
The stories here span seasons and the community. Winter brings storm-watching and dramatic seas. Spring awakens ancient forests. Summer offers surfing, wildlife encounters, and long light stretching into the evening. Fall brings migrating grey whales and the quieter rhythm of shoulder season. These seasonal narratives unfold within a resilient community that values the relationship between nature and those who have stewarded it for many thousands of years. Each visit and each season offers new stories to tell.
