Surfing
Learn to surf with the pros! Whether you’re a beginner or experienced surfer, nothing beats the invigorating feel of the Pacific Ocean. Group and private lessons are available throughout the day with one of Tofino’s many surf schools. They supply the boards, wetsuits and will teach you how to read the waves and understand coastal safety. Just show up and enjoy the ride.
Guided kayaking tours
Tofino has earned its reputation as Vancouver Island’s kayaking capital. Several expert operators offer trips in the calm and protected waters of the Clayoquot Sound. Choose a quick 2.5-hour paddle around smaller islands or venture out to Meares Island and stretch your legs on Big Tree Trail before paddling back across the harbour. Guided tours are led by experienced instructors who will ensure you have a safe and memorable experience.
Stand up paddleboarding
Experience the water from a different perspective. This low-impact activity is perfect for exploring nearby inlets and channels. Rent gear and enjoy a leisurely afternoon on the water, or join one of the many guided tours.

Bear and whale watching
Suit up and head out on a zodiac boat, or relax aboard a covered cabin cruiser. Spot black bears foraging for shellfish during low tide or catch a glimpse of Pacific Grey whales on their incredible 10,000-mile spring migration. Sightings are common throughout the summer, providing unforgettable moments for wildlife enthusiasts.
Boat charters and fishing
Cast a line into the vast waters of the Pacific for an unforgettable fishing adventure. Whether offshore fishing for halibut or jigging for rockfish closer to shore, top guides with excellent vessels and state-of-the-art equipment will help you succeed. Fish year-round for Chinook salmon, Steelhead (November to March), Halibut (March to September), and Coho salmon (June to November). If fishing isn’t your thing but you want to catch some crabs or see some marine wildlife, crabbing and wildlife trips are also available with trusted outfitters.

Floating sauna
Surrounded by remote inlet landscapes, immerse yourself within the salty healing waters of the Pacific Ocean and warm up in the wood-fired, floating cedar sauna. Just a short, scenic ride by boat from Tofino Resort + Marina, this tranquil retreat offers a perfect escape for friends or family.
Hot Springs Cove
Rejuvenate your soul at Hot Springs Cove, a naturally beautiful hot spring, located in Maquinna Provincial Park at the remote northern end of Clayoquot Sound. Accessible only by air or a scenic water taxi ride (about an hour from Tofino), soaking in the rocky pools with mountain vistas overhead offers a magical, restorative experience.
