Beach walks and relaxation

Enjoy early morning strolls or watch the sunset on a blanket against the driftwood. The sands of Chesterman Beach offer a sense of connection and serenity. In the middle of the beach, the tombolo separates North from South Chesterman and connects to Frank Island at low tide.

Wildlife and tidepool exploration

Chesterman Beach is a haven for wildlife. Watch as the plovers dance up and down the sand in the waves, or look for Grey whales as they pass by on their migrations. During low tide, the rocks reveal tide pools teeming with marine life, including vibrant sea stars, sea anemones, crabs, and nudibranchs. Take your time while exploring these ecosystems, marvelling at the diversity thriving just beneath the surface.

Surfing and watersports

The beach features surf breaks suitable for all skill levels, from beginner-friendly waves to more challenging swells for seasoned surfers. Surf lessons and rentals are readily available in Tofino, making it easy for newcomers to dip their toes in or hone their skills. Paddleboarding and kayaking offer alternative ways to explore the coastline from a different perspective, often providing opportunities to spot marine life along the way.

Storm watching

The windswept krummholz trees that line the shoreline tell stories of the powerful weather. Winter presents a unique opportunity to experience the raw power of nature on the West Coast. Storm watching during the cooler months offers a memorable experience for adventurers and nature lovers alike.

Respectful tourism

We love sharing the natural beauty of Chesterman Beach and ask visitors to do so responsibly. Remember to tread gently (barnacles are living creatures!) and leave everything as you found it, helping to protect this delicate environment. Dogs must be kept on leash to protect the shorebirds and local fauna. During the summer months, fires are prohibited to ensure this incredible environment remains for generations to come.
