This annual festival offers a glimpse into the migration of shorebirds through the region. Birding on the Mudflats takes place daily on the birding platform behind Hotel Zed in Tofino, offering free, drop-in opportunities to observe shorebirds as they rest and feed during their northward journey. Spotting scopes and binoculars are available, and knowledgeable guides are on hand to share information about the birds and the Tofino Mudflats Wildlife Management Area.

Other festival programming includes an evening presentation with Liam Ragan of BC Nature and a birding walk with Ian Cruickshank of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, providing additional opportunities to learn about local and migratory bird species.
