WICKANINNISH INN RATED TOP RESORT IN CANADA, TRAVEL + LEISURE POLL
Tofino, BC (July 6, 2012) - As announced for the first time this morning on NBC’s Today Show, the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine selected their Worlds Best Award winners and have rated the Wickaninnish Inn the Top Resort in Canada.
The prestigious travel magazine polls readers for their ‘World’s Best Awards’ each year, and for the first time the 2012 poll devotes a category exclusively to Canadian properties. The Inn has ranked favourably in the US/Canada division for many years, most recently having been selected the #1 property in Canada in 2011 and twenty fourth overall in this combined category last year. In other excellent news Vancouver Island was also selected as the #1 island in the Continental USA and Canada and for the first time ever also among the top 10 islands worldwide!
“The fact this ranking comes to us from the knowledgeable readers of T+L whose participation in the poll is not known to us makes it even more meaningful. We are also recognized for the first time as a Hall of Fame winner for consistently making the ‘Worlds Best Awards’ list for over 10 years which is even a bigger testament to our ongoing commitment to outstanding service and quality” said Charles McDiarmid, Managing Director of the family owned and operated Wickaninnish Inn.
As part of efforts to continuously improve the guest experience, the Inn recently completed a thorough renovation of all 45 original Wickaninnish-at-the-Pointe building guestrooms. The public areas of the Inn also received a detailed revitalization. One intriguing new element is the refurbishment of the steam room in the Ancient Cedars Spa which has become a magical ‘sea cave’ fashioned with glass starfish and a true cave like atmosphere.
The Inn is honoured to receive this latest award from Travel + Leisure, as well as other reader’s choice awards from Condé Nast Traveler Magazine (June 2012, #1 Spa in Canada), Condé Nast Johansen’s (2012 Award of Excellence), Wine Spectator Magazine (2011 Award of Excellence), Andrew Harper’s Reader Survey (#7 International Hideaway out of 1,000 Inns in 2011), Vancouver Magazine (2012 Gold, Best Resort Dining in BC) and many more.
The Wickaninnish Inn is pleased to welcome guests year round to experience “Rustic Elegance on Nature’s Edge” in a world class setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

About Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards
A questionnaire developed by the editors of Travel + Leisure, in association with ROI Research Inc., was made available to Travel + Leisure readers at TLWorldsBest.com from December 15, 2010, to March 31, 2011. Readers were invited to participate through Travel + Leisure magazine (January, February, and March issues), and online at TravelandLeisure.com. To protect the integrity of the data, after March 31, 2011, respondents were screened by Travel + Leisure and responses from any identified travel-industry professionals who completed the survey were eliminated from the final tally. The survey website, TLWorldsBest.com, was maintained, monitored, and kept secure by ROI Research Inc., which collected and tabulated the responses and kept them confidential. The scores are indexed averages of responses concerning applicable characteristics. Respondents were asked to rate hotels, islands, destination spas, golf resorts, and rental-car agencies on five characteristics: rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food and value. For each characteristic, respondents were asked to rate a candidate on a scale of 1 to 5, where “5” means excellent and “1” means poor. Required component ratings were then averaged, creating an overall score. A minimum number of responses was necessary for a candidate to be eligible for inclusion in the World’s Best Awards listings. www.travelandleisure.com
