West Coast Sustainable Tourism Association Raises $300,000 in Partnerships, Commits $250,000 to Support Clayoquot Sound Community

First donation of $60,000 to Clayoquot Sound Theatre

[Tofino, April 24, 2024] – The West Coast Sustainable Tourism Association (WCSTA) proudly announces the successful one-year anniversary of its creation and ongoing fundraising efforts, securing a remarkable $300,000 in the past year through strategic partnerships with its members. Emphasizing its commitment to community upliftment and sustainable development, WCSTA has pledged to allocate $250,000 of these funds to support the vibrant community of Clayoquot Sound, a UNESCO Biosphere region renowned for its natural beauty and cultural heritage.

A cornerstone of WCSTA's sustainable tourism initiatives is its innovative partnership model, which involves partnering hotels and accommodations, donating a self-imposed 1% fee on their room revenue to the association's cause. This collaborative effort has yielded significant financial resources, empowering WCSTA to make a tangible difference in the future of the communities it serves.

In line with its mission to foster community well-being and cultural enrichment, WCSTA's board of directors has unanimously voted to allocate $250,000 towards supporting stakeholders in the Clayoquot Sound region. The first beneficiary of this generous contribution is the Clayoquot Sound Theatre, a cherished cultural institution with a rich history of promoting arts and entertainment in the community.

Recognizing the importance of preserving cultural landmarks and fostering artistic expression, WCSTA is pleased to announce a donation of $60,000 to the Clayoquot Sound Theatre for their much-needed renovation project. This financial support represents the final funds required for the theatre to complete its renovations, ensuring that it continues to serve as a vibrant hub for cultural activities and community engagement.

"Receiving this generous donation from the West Coast Sustainable Tourism Association is not just about renovating a theatre; it's about revitalizing our community's cultural heartbeat. Their support ensures that the Clayoquot Sound Theatre remains a vibrant space where stories are shared, creativity thrives, and community connections deepen. We are immensely grateful for their commitment to our collective well-being." - Sophie L'Homme, Theatre Manager and Director of Tofino Jazz Festival.

"We are thrilled to be able to support the Clayoquot Sound community through our sustainable tourism initiatives," said Rob Renna, Executive Director of WCSTA. "By partnering with local stakeholders and investing in projects like the Clayoquot Sound Theatre renovation, we aim to create lasting positive impacts that enhance the well-being and vitality of the communities we serve."

Through its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable tourism practices and community development, WCSTA remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the preservation of natural and cultural heritage while fostering economic opportunities for local residents.
