A Note From Charles October 2013
Whatever the time of year, there is always something special going on at the Wickaninnish Inn. But no season is as magical as the holiday season.
By the time U.S. Thanksgiving rolls around in late November, there is definitely a soft chill in the air, driving us indoors to cosy up by the fire with good friends and a nice bottle of wine. Things are a bit more relaxed, so we have more time to spend with those we love, and those we love to see coming back to our Inn. And lately, as the U.S. economy continues to improve, we’ve been seeing more of our American friends returning than we have in recent years, and that gives us a reason to be truly thankful.
This year, we have even more reasons to give thanks. The readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine recently named the Wickaninnish Inn the Number 1 Resort in all of Canada in the 2013 Readers’ Choice Survey. The Inn, which moved up from last year’s sixth place spot, was also named top resort hotel in British Columbia and second in Canada in this summer’s Travel + Leisure readers’ survey, so we must be doing something right! We are truly honoured and humbled by this recognition.
Of course, an honour like this is not because of our beautiful scenery and luxurious rooms – it’s about our amazing team and the attention to detail they bring to everything they do.
Take, for instance, Camilla Thorogood, our Décor Guru. Every year at Christmas she turns the Inn into a magical holiday destination by the sea. Not only does Camilla decorate the Inn and guestrooms, she also creates ornaments from original designs for guest room trees and teaches the staff how to assemble them. Camilla’s uniquely beautiful sense of design is just part of the magic of a Christmas at the Inn – we also have special gifts, treats and a splendid holiday feast waiting for you in The Pointe restaurant.
And then it’s the New Year, and the drama of our annual storm-watching season. Every year we hold a glamorous champagne gala on New Year’s Eve, with live music and dancing. But even that pales in comparison with the excitement of watching a winter storm move in across the Pacific Ocean – preferably while you’re warm and dry and well fed indoors.
We can’t wait for your family to join ours at this most magical time of year.
