February: A Note From Charles
As British Columbia gets set to celebrate its first ever Family Day holiday on February 11, it seems like a good time to reflect on what family really means. To us here at the Wick, family means more than just the people we’re related to. It’s also our friends, our neighbours and the guests who share this beautiful place we call home.
That’s one of the reasons why we at the Inn never opted to offer outings or services under the Wickaninnish name. Instead, we’ve always worked with our neighbours in Tofino, supporting their operations by sending our guests their way for surfing, kayaking and whale or bear watching. As our family prospered with the increase in tourism to Tofino, we were happy to know our friends were also seeing benefits.
We’re also pleased to connect our Wick family with our Tofino family through our in-house Les Clefs d’Or Concierge, who can book outings, adventures and other local experiences, like the events surrounding the upcoming Pacific Rim Whale Festival (March 16 to 24).
Meanwhile, to keep our family of visitors comfortable, we’re constantly improving the Inn. We’ve just opened the new Henry Nolla Gallery in the Driftwood Café. We’ve also upgraded Wi-Fi throughout the Inn with state-of-the-art Meraki systems in all the guestrooms. Now our guests can stay in touch with family back home while they stay with us.
And we recently installed a new high efficiency Viessmann boiler system in the Beach Building, which will allow us to increase our energy efficiency by about 30 per cent while reducing carbon emissions by more than 40 per cent. In fact, estimates are that we will reduce CO2 emissions by five to six tons a year – the weight of a single adult Orca whale!
Whether it’s for the first time or for a return visit, we hope to welcome your family to ours soon.
