Late October signals the start of our mighty storm season here on nature’s edge, with dramatic skies and impressive swells beginning to grace us now through to March. In addition to stellar surfing this time of year, guests come to Tofino for our legendary storm watching. Our open coastline and the Pacific Ocean stretch uninterrupted for 8,500 kilometres from here to Japan, which positions us to welcome strong winds building up over lengthy distances and bringing awe-inspiring waves and forming intriguing krummholz-shaped trees.

The beauty of storm season lies in however you choose to experience it. Slip on your gum boots (brought to you sized to fit by our housekeeping team) and wander the sandy shores, embracing the invigorating wind and rain against your face; think of it as a complimentary west coast facial. As another option or as the next chapter in your own storm watching experience, draw a nice hot bath in your room’s generous soaker tub set against the backdrop of wind-swept Chesterman Beach or the tempest-tossed open ocean for an indulgent soak with a glass of wine in hand.

Return from a beach stroll to dry off at the Driftwood Café, where our drying closet awaits your damp gear while you warm up with a hearty soup or hot beverage. For those craving to luxuriate in the ultimate pampering experience, I suggest booking in for a Hot Stone Massage at the Ancient Cedars Spa - an excellent way to balance the chill of our late fall and winter storms.

Should the mood for a cocktail strike, head upstairs to the On the Rocks bar to indulge in curated sips from our specialty winter cocktail list. Perfectly gratifying for a rainy evening is the delectable Incinerator Rock, featuring Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Sheringham Sirène Chocolate Liqueur, Mia Amata Amaro, Bittermens Xocolatl Mole Bitters and Scrappy’s Fire Tincture Bitters. Then, join us at The Pointe Restaurant for a taste of the seasonal offerings crafted by Chef Clayton, enjoyed alongside a sweeping 270-degree perspective of the lively Pacific Ocean.

Whether you opt to embrace the energy of storm season up close and personal or through the opportunity for relaxation it invites, we hope to welcome you to the Inn during this incredible time of year.

Warmly,

Charles
