At the Wickaninnish Inn, we just love dark and stormy nights because there’s nothing more natural than curling up with a good book - or a blank journal that’s yearning to be filled. Throughout this winter storm season, creative and inquiring travelers will have the opportunity to meet engaging Canadian writers, all while enjoying the Inn’s luxurious services, during the first Writers & Readers Series. Packages hosted by each individual writer are available.
With the help of Alma Lee, founder of the Vancouver International Writers & Readers Festival, and Dorothy Baert of Wildside Booksellers in Tofino, these writers will be hosting the Series at the Wick:
Timothy Taylor, whose smash debut novel, Stanley Park, was followed up by Story House and Silent Cruise, from October 24-26, 2007,
C.C. Humphreys, third-generation writer and actor, will entertain with tales of swashbuckling heroes from his Jack Absolute, The French Executioner, and The Fetch series, from November 26-28, 2007, Chris will be on property the week leading to his series for his own writer’s retreat, completing his novel,
Susan Swan, the accomplished and newsworthy performance artist and author of various works including The Wives of Bath (made into the feature film Lost and Delirious), the stories of Stupid Boys Are Good to Relax With, and What Casanova Told Me, from January 16-18, 2007.
The limited offering package includes 2 nights at the Wick in one of the deluxe guest rooms overlooking the Pacific Ocean, along with breakfast for two on both mornings and a surprise literary gift. A welcome wine reception will allow guests their first opportunity to meet the visiting writer, and there will also be a reading by the writer with preferred seating for guests staying on this package. The visiting writer will be offering time to guests, whether for creative feedback or self-directed discussion.
The Wickaninnish Inn is set in an electrifying spot on the stormy west coast of Vancouver Island, and has been the inspiration for many a daydream, a short story or a novel – like Frank Schatzing’s The Swarm. Do you daydream about writing the next great novel? Or are you more inclined to simply read the next great tome? Either way, the “Inn” new place to do it is in Tofino… at the Wick.
Selected rooms and suites are still available throughout the series. For information, call 1.800.333.4604 or go to our website at www.wickinn.com to further inspire your getaway.
