WICKANINNISH INN EARNS TOP AWARDS FROM TRAVEL AND LEISURE MAGAZINE

July 23, 2002

Continuing its reputation as a world-class resort, the Wickaninnish Inn, a Relais & Châteaux property located on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island, today announced it was named top hotel in North America and the third best hotel in the world by Travel and Leisure Magazine. This marks the first time ever that a Canadian property has earned the top ranking of the World's Best Hotel in the Continental U.S. and Canada region. The results are published in the August issue of Travel and Leisure Magazine. For further information see the following link:

Every year, Travel & Leisure magazine asks readers to rate hotels as part of its "World's Best Awards." The rankings are based on five characteristics: rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food, and value. "We are very pleased to receive this distinguished honor," said Charles McDiarmid, manager and co-owner of the Wickaninnish Inn. "From the onset, our families vision for the Wickaninnish was to create an extraordinary 'get-away' experience-one that embraces the rustic nature of our area-with elegant comfort that soothes the mind and invigorates the soul. I would like to thank the Wickaninnish team for their tremendous support in helping us realize our dream."

Rustic Elegance on Nature's Edge

There's a romantic fantasy that pervades the "Wick"-an exquisite combination of nature, art and style. Owned and operated by long time Tofino residents, the McDiarmid family, the Inn was designed from the ground up with storm-watching in mind. Each of the 46 rooms features a fireplace, floor to ceiling windows, deep soaker tubs and a private balcony from which to take in its stunning surroundings. Its Pointe Restaurant serves award-winning Pacific Northwest cuisine with "thoughtful" service and a panoramic view of the open Pacific, nearby islands and idyllic Chesterman Beach. The Ancient Cedars Spa offers an oasis of restorative effects with signature treatments that include the Sacred Sea Thalassotherapy and Hot Stone Massage

Wickaninnish On-The-Beach

Earlier this year, the McDiarmid family unveiled plans to build a complementary addition, Wickaninnish On-The-Beach, located just a few steps from beautiful Chesterman Beach, adjacent to the existing Wickaninnish. The lobby will feature a sweeping twenty-foot glass fronted view of the open ocean and nearby beach, a fitness room, bar and outdoor Jacuzzi. The rooms, starting at 600 square feet with loft suites of up to 1150 square feet, all feature ocean views, double soaker tubs, fireplaces and private balconies.
