WICKANINNISH INN MANAGER HONOURED AS HOTELIER OF THE YEAR

December 6, 1999

Charles McDiarmid, Manager of the Wickaninnish Inn, has been chosen as Hotelier of the Year at this year's Pinnacle Awards in Toronto. This special industry award recognises innovation in hotel management.

Mr. McDiarmid has infused the Wickaninnish Inn with the natural elements of the rugged West Coast, combining art, culture and nature throughout. In the process he has collaborated with local artists, artisans, food growers and business people to ensure that any success enjoyed by the Inn is shared by the surrounding community.

The Inn has become known for its world class service, accommodation and cuisine, obviously requiring highly trained and dedicated staff, many of whom come from the local area. From its inception, it has been the policy of the inn to invite and recognise innovative ideas from all levels of staff.

"As anyone in the industry can tell you, this is very much a team business. While this award is given to an individual, I am very aware that our 90 plus staff are the real winners," say Mr. McDiarmid.

The Pinnacle Awards were instituted by Food Service and Hospitality Magazine to honour a diverse group of industry leaders for their continued success and achievement, each representing the full spectrum of the industry.

Winners have been chosen for their contributions to the public image of the industry through civic, educational and community involvement, as well as their efforts in establishing innovative concepts in the areas of food service or hotel management.

Past winners have included George Cohon of McDonald's Restaurant of Canada and Karl Kaiser of Inniskillin Wines, Inc.
