The Wickaninnish Inn, located on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island, was recently named by the exclusive Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report as an all-time favourite hideaway in a special 20th anniversary issue of the publication.
The inn was one of only 30 lodgings worldwide-from Anandari to Wharekauhau-chosen in the author's reflection of the several thousand hotels Harper's has anonymously reviewed in the past two decades.
The Hideaway Report bills itself as "the connoisseur's worldwide guide to peaceful and unspoiled places" and declares itself as the first travel publication to wholly adopt the policy of paying full rate at every property it reviews. The Harper nom de plume was created to allow incognito travel under unpublicized real names of the reviewers. The Idaho-based publication (Sun Valley) does not permit any advertising and is available only by subscription.
The Wickaninnish Inn first appeared on the pages of Harper's Hideaway in 1997 as a new discovery. It was subsequently named as a Grand Award Winner that same year in the guide's annual selection of the world's most captivating hideaway hotels and resorts.
Recipients of the Grande Award are ineligible to be nominated in successive years which makes this 20th anniversary recognition a very special achievement for The Wickaninnish Inn - an affirmation of the inn's dedication to delivering a truly singular hospitality experience in peaceful and breathtaking surroundings.
The Wickaninnish Inn opened in August 1996. It is a member of the exclusive collection of Relais & Châteaux properties, denoting the intimate 46-room inn as one of rare character.
It is home to the Pointe Restaurant, reputed for its coastal cuisine and outstanding West Coast wine list. Set on the margin between ocean and temperate rain forest, the full-service Ancient Cedars Spa-Canada's westernmost spa-is the newest addition to the magical guest experience at the inn.
The Wickaninnish Inn is a Relais & Chateaux member. Reservations for the inn and spa can be made by calling toll-free 1-800-333-4604 (US & Canada); via the inn's website at www.wickinn.com with beautiful images on view; and through any Relais & Chateaux reservation office.
