Each year, the travel connoisseurs at Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report have the pleasure of recounting their travel experiences over the past 12 months and singling out a number of particularly enchanting hideaways for special recognition. To be considered for the annual awards, a hotel must be relatively small in size and possess a strong individual personality. Properties are also required to have a relaxing atmosphere, warmth and charm, and to demonstrate a consistent devotion to personal service.
As quoted in the most recent edition of the Hideaway Report®, Andrew Harper had this to say about the Tofino-based inn. “The Wick,” as it is affectionately known, is situated at the north end of Chesterman Beach, a great arc of ocean-swept sand, near the colorful harbor town of Tofino adjacent to the Pacific Rim National Park. The inn consists of two buildings clad in gray, weathered batten-and-board siding. One is set on a rock overlooking the ocean, while a new addition is just steps away, in the rain forest at the edge of the beach. Both structures are so carefully integrated with the natural surroundings that a pair of bald eagles feel right at home in one of the nearby Sitka spruces.”
