Staff Spotlight: Marianne & Daniel Vogel
Longtime guests at the Inn were delighted to see a couple of familiar faces again this fall: Marianne and Daniel Vogel. The popular young couple has returned after spending a year seeking the sun in the Okanagan Valley. Although they were happy to be out of the rain for a while, they found they missed the Inn too much to stay away for long.
“I missed the atmosphere in Tofino and the Wickaninnish,” says Marianne, the Inn’s Reservations Supervisor. “The atmosphere is completely different here. It’s a family.”
They’ve returned to find some exciting changes at the Inn, especially at The Pointe restaurant, where Daniel is Food and Beverage Service Manager and a new culinary team is shaking things up. “I came back and suddenly the kitchen, the whole preparation of the food is so different,” Daniel says. “It’s adventurous. The kitchen guys are really, really excited about their food.”
Although the Vogels hail from Europe – she from Switzerland, and he from Germany – they have found their home here in Western Canada. It is, after all, where they met and fell in love, first with each other, then with the Island and then the Inn. Now, five years after first arriving at the Inn in a miserable rainstorm, they’re back where they belong.
“Our clientele here, I love our guests,” says Daniel. “They are part of the Wick family, and we are part of their family.”
