Beautiful, Stormy Weather

Grab Fido and your galoshes to experience the Wild West Coast

Would you plan your vacation with Fido during the stormy season? Most would not consider this option unless of course, your destination was the fabulous Wickaninnish Inn located in Tofino, BC, Canada. Since 1996, the Wickaninnish Inn, nicknamed The Wick, has been the original winter storm-watching destination on Canada’s West Coast. A violent sea puts on a show during storm watch season that you and Fido are privy to watch from the comfort of your room as The Wick sits at the edge of nature.

No matter the season, Fido is in for a treat and his pet parents are, too. Conde Nast Johansens readers voted Wickaninnish Inn as the Most Excellent Romantic Hideaway in North America for 2010. There are many activities around the inn. One very unique project is searching for hand-blown glass fishing floats making their way from Japan. If you are lucky enough to find one on the beach, they are rare and highly collectible.

Much of the Wickaninnish Inn was built with reclaimed Vancouver Island wood, driftwood collected from local beaches, and from Cedar and Douglas Fir felled to clear space for the inn’s two buildings. The produce, seafood and meat served in The Pointe Restaurant have always been sourced locally from Clayoquot Sound, Vancouver Island and greater BC. In fact, most of the hotel’s décor trimmings are from local artist, as The Wick supports its community. Some items are available for purchase should you wish to take home a memento from The Wick.

Every room at the Wickaninnish Inn, a world-class hotel, reveals its unique vista overlooking the Pacific Ocean or spectacular Chesterman Beach and the surf looks close enough to touch.

Luxury and beauty is everywhere you look and after a full day of adventure, you and Fido can order room service from The Pointe Restaurant that is prepared by Chefs John Waller and Nicholas Nutting featuring farm-fresh, organic Vancouver Island ingredients.

Be sure to take a stroll on the beach at night with flashlights and galoshes provided in each room. The beach strip next to the hotel spans for miles, and a night walk with the sounds of the ocean and a sky clear of light pollution will reclaim your soul, and put you in touch with nature. A doggy cleaning station is available when you return from your beach adventure.

Make an appointment at The Wick’s full-service Ancient Cedars Spa. Reservations are encouraged ahead of time as appointments tend to fill up quickly. The spa facility also offers yoga classes, and a couple's massage room overlooking the ocean that you and your partner can enjoy while being pampered with a spa treatment.

The town of Tofino has healthy food stores and friendly people that can point you and Fido in the right direction for exploration. Tofino is an amazing area with old-growth forests and mammoth trees thousands of years old. Take Fido on a local boat ride to a nearby island and explore your surroundings. The Big Tree Trail is a cedar wooden boardwalk that cascades through ancient trees. Take a tour through these woods and feel the wisdom of this forest welcome you and your dog.

The Wickaninnish Inn blends in with its surroundings and creates a natural flow between a luxury vacation and the great outdoors.

There is something special about Tofino. The old growth forests frame the unique energy of this vibrant area.
